About Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country located in Eastern Africa. It shares its boarders with Tanzania and Rwanda in the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the west, Kenya in the east and South Sudan in the north.

The country has a tropical climate with two rainy and dry seasons spread in between the year. The favourable climate in Uganda means that you can enjoy your safari throughout the year.

The people of Uganda are of three distinct ethnic groups; the Bantu, the Nilo-Hamites and Nilotics. With such an ethnic diversity, Uganda is a land rich in culture and traditions as seen in the variety of indigenous knowledge, languages, folklore, traditional music and dances, handicrafts, costumes, foods, beliefs, and customary practices. Uganda can only be accessed by either road or air.

Safaris in Uganda

You are welcome to experience a wonderful African adventure in the country that the former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill proclaimed as “the Pearl of Africa” because of its unique beauty, variety of nature and wildlife.

Positioned along the Equator or the Uganda Equator, Uganda is blessed with both the West African and savannah wildlife where you will find the primates like the chimps and baboons plus the famous Big Five. With a Ugandan safari it means that you will have almost experienced the entire African safari.

According the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), Uganda has ten national parks displaying the best of East Africa. Their rift valley landscapes and tropical forests make dramatic backdrops to an extensive variety of flora and fauna.

The parks managed by UWA offer ‘traditional’ savanna safaris along with boat tours, forest hikes, mountain climbing and wildlife research activities.

According to UWA, Uganda is unrivalled on the continent as a bird watching destination with over 1,000 species of birds – several of which are found nowhere else on the planet. It is also home to 13 types of primates including over half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas; and our closest relative – the chimpanzee.

The popular safaris in Uganda include game drives, trekking the endangered gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park, bird watching, a boat cruise on the mighty River Nile, and experiencing the various local cultures, among others.

Uganda is home to the famous Big Five: the African buffalo, African elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros – wild animals that define the African safari in their pristine habitats.
